Members of the Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria (AAEUN) in FCT have called on the government to increase the budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector as a demonstration of its commitment to make the sector the main stay of the economy.

The group made this known in a statement by its chairman, Dr. Agha Ukpai, Chairman AAEUN, FCT after it meeting in Gwagwalada. 

The union commended the effort of the government in repositioning the agricultural sector but urged the government to approve and implement the payment of hazard allowances to agriculture and allied workers in Nigeria. 

They called for a synergy between the union and the ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment as a way of enhancing their contribution to agricultural development in Nigeria.

The meeting which had representation from across the federation requested that the group should be given membership status by Nigeria Agricultural Council and Nigerian Water Resources council for proper representation of workers’ interest and aspiration.
