Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) Multi System Hospital, Ekiti State, has successfully performed 14 kidney transplants.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Makanjuola Ogundipe, said six of the kidney transplants were carried out last week while eight had been done earlier.
Ogundipe explained that the patients were doing fine, saying they would be discharged in the next few days.
The CMD noted that the operations were done within 72 hours while the donors had returned to their homes in good condition.

He said that the hospital was well equipped to treat different kinds of ailments.
One of the doctors who performed the surgeries, Dr Olusegun Aremu, said the success story “Is evidence that there is hope for those experiencing kidney failures in the country.”
He expressed concerns that Nigeria was one of the countries with the highest number of kidney diseases because people don’t go for regular checkups.
Aremu urged people to drink water regularly, reduce intake of salt and stop taking herbal medicine regularly among other precautions to prevent kidney-related diseases.
