The Registrar of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Alhaji Abdullahi A. Kundila today, said new students should count themselves lucky as over 63,000 have applied for admission but only about 10,000 were admitted.
He urged the students to make use of the various facilities, especially library, which the university provided to assist their academic pursuit.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Garba , advised newly admitted students of the institution to be cautious of sexually transmitted diseases, particularly Acquire Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDs).
Speaking during an orientation programme organised for the students, Professor Ibrahim Garba, asked them to respect the rules and regulations of the university and take their studies serious in order to become the adults that their parents would be proud of.
“Please do not engage in taking alcohol, dangerous drugs, or any social vices. Avoid bad influences from other people within and outside the university, specifically you are strongly advised to avoid membership of secret cult. You also need to be security conscious
While you engage in your academic pursuit in the university campus. Do report any suspicious objects or movement that is not normal,” Professor Garba said.
He also enjoined the students to respect the values, culture and religion of their host communities in order to ensure harmonious relationship.
