The Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, has disclosed that former Military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar and President Goodluck Jonathan, will grace the 25th anniversary of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.

Ezomonye who disclosed this while briefing journalists on the silver jubilee celebration, said the institution has produced over 15,000 qualified man power for the nation since it establishment.

He said, “Since the establishment of the institution 25 years ago, it has made a tremendous impacts in all ramifications and based on that, there is enough reasons to celebrate.

“In 1999, history was made in Nigeria with the licensing of the first private university with the registration no.1.”

He said aside the two notable personalities, a broad spectrum of local and foreign dignitaries have been invited to participate in the celebration, some of whom will serve as presidential panel discussants at a colloquium.

According to him, the institution had achieved remarkable successes in teaching, research, capacity building, innovative studies and significantly, production of exceptional graduates in diverse field of endeavours.

He said to celebrate the occasion, the institution planned to host a colloquium, which would focus on tertiary education in Africa within the context of today’s dynamic globalised knowledge economy and tech-driven world.

He added that the institution also planned free medical outreach residents of its catchment areas during the celebration among other activities.

Responding to the questions, Ezemonye called on the federal government to include both government and private owned universities in the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), especially in the area of research as both producing man power for the nation.
