The governorship candidates of various political parties in Kaduna State have solicited the support of foremost cleric, Dr Ahmad Gumi, in their campaign against election related violence.
The candidates, led by the governorship candidate of United Democratic Party, Dr Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, visited the cleric in his house in Kaduna.
They said there was the need to educate the electorate to shun violence before, during and after the polls.
The forum also invited the Islamic scholar to participate in a 2-day stakeholders conference on peaceful elections to be organised in the state.
Dr Aliyu informed Shaikh Gumi that the conference would help in tackling the menace as the state has been forecast to be one of the violence prone states in the country.
“This forum of governorship candidates is of the opinion that one of the best way to check election violence is by talking to stakeholders like you at a round table to discuss the implications and dangers of allowing such ugly situation to continue,” he said.
The forum equally visited Malam Mohammed Ibrahim, a former Director General of the NTA and FRCN at his residence to also seek for his support for the upcoming conference.
In their separate responses the two elders promised to be part of the conference and to contribute in whatever way possible for Kaduna to be peaceful.
