In the past few days, there have been reported cases of yellow fever outbreaks in some parts of the country which have led to loss of lives. While some tagged it as ‘strange disease’, health officials have attributed such deaths to yellow fever.
Yellow fever cases have been confirmed in Delta and Enugu states. There are also likelihood that the so called ‘strange disease’ reported in Benue and some other states of the federation could be as a result of yellow fever outbreak.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has come out to say that the outbreak of yellow fever was as a result of failure on the part of the states in carrying out immunization against the disease.
The outbreaks should be wake up call for the state governments to urgently put measures in place to tackle the spread of the disease.
We cannot afford to lose more lives to this disease.
