Suspended AGF compromised TSA, IPPIS, GIFMIS to ‘steal’ N109bn – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had uncovered how the former Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, compromised some platforms initiated by the federal government to fight issues of graft in the country.

The platforms allegedly compromised by Idris, according to the commission, include the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS).

The anti-graft agency said the embattled public official carted away billions of naira belonging to the government, to the tune of N109 billion immediately he compromised those platforms.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that Idris was a few months ago arrested by the commission, spent weeks in custody before he was arraigned at a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, where he was granted administrative bail on Thursday.

Idris and his co-defendants —Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Kudu Usman – are standing trial in a N109bn fraud before Justice A. O. Adeyemi Ajayi.

Speaking on what transpired in court on Friday, the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, explained that at the resumed trial of the case on Thursday, the chief investigative officer of the case and prosecution witness one and chief superintendent of the EFCC, Hayatu Sulaiman Ahmed, while being led in  evidence by the prosecuting counsel,  Rotimi Jacobs, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), told the court that the investigations by the commission showed that Idris, while in office, compromised key units under his care like the TSA,  GIFMIS and the IPPIS.

Uwujaren said Idris used the funds in constructing properties like the Gezawa Exchange Limited, Gezawa Integrated Farms and Kano City Mall.
