A woman suspected to have been infected with monkeypox was yesterday taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) for further scrutiny.
The patient was moved from her home at the Gboko area of the state after medical personnel earlier deployed by the state Ministry of Health found her with symptoms suspected to be monkeypox.
The State Director of Public Health, Dr. Terna Kur, told our correspondent that the sample of the patient had been taken and sent to the appropriate quarters for investigation.
Kur said that initial history showed classical result that the patient had contact with some one infected with the disease in a neighbouring state.
Kur appealed to residents to remain calm as the ministry had put everything in place to curtail any spread of the disease in the event the suspicion is confirmed.
