Suspected killer of general in Abuja arrested

The FCT Police Command said it has arrested the gang leader of some suspected armed robbers, Hashiru Marazu Bako, who allegedly killed a retired Brigadier General, Uwem Harold, in his house in Apo, Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, said the suspect escaped from the Kuje correctional facility during the Kuje Jail Break on May 22, 2022.

He said operatives trailed and apprehended the suspect in a hotel in Kano.

City & Crime earlier reported that the CP, on June 23, 2024, paraded four suspects over the killing and said the prime suspect, Hashiru Marazu Bako, escaped with the late general’s pistol and his wife’s jewellery.

Mr Igweh, while parading the suspect on Monday, said was arrested by operatives from the Utako division during a covert operation led by CSP Victor Godfrey.

He said the arrest was a follow up operation by the same team of police operatives on July 19, 2024, adding that the pistol of the late general was recovered with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

He further said that other exhibits recovered from the residence of the prime suspect included a wristwatch belonging to the wife of the late general, jewellery and 79 bottles of codeine.

Mr Igweh added that, “It is important to note that the same Hashiru Marazu Bako was once arrested in 2022 at Wuse Zone 6 for armed robbery, prosecuted and sentenced to the Kuje correctional facility, from where he broke out during the Kuje Jail Break on 22nd May, 2022.”
