Four suspected kidnappers were gunned down in a duel with men of the Cross River Police Command.

Sikiru Akande, Commissioner of Police in the State, confirmed the incident, saying his men were able to rescue one Endurance Aniedi Egbara, who was abducted.

The CP said the incident happened when a combined team of security operatives cordoned a hideout of  a suspected cultist popularly known as Romans at No. 24C School Road, Satellite Town, Calabar.

Akande said: “During the process four (4) suspects sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries in an attempt to evade arrest. They were later confirmed dead in the hospital.

“Items recovered from them include: three locally made pistols with three live cartridges, charms, amulets, two bottles of concoction, one pack substance suspected to be cocaine, one Itel Phone, three sim cards, as well as vehicle with registration No. CAL 932 TC used by the kidnappers were also recovered with its documents.”

Also Akande said one Edet Ekpo Eyo, aged 38, a kidnap suspect, was arrested through “credible information”.

He said the suspect has been on the police and State Government wanted list for cases of Murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism.

The police commissioner reiterated that his Command’s determination to squarely surmount the daunting security challenges across the state which is the tourist hub of the Federation, will be achieved with the cooperation of all.

“It is also worthy of note that the Command is re-dominating and reclaiming the public space from all criminal elements in the state,” he said.
