Suspected kidnappers’ informant nabbed in Taraba

Troops have captured a suspected female kidnappers’ informant in Taraba State.

According to Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations of 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the suspect was arrested on 6 September 2024 by the troops in Sondi village in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, who was identified as Miss Markus Grace,  was said to be a girlfriend to a notorious kidnapper named ‘Chen’ who was reported to be terrorising residents of the area.

Captain Oni stated further that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to reveal the extent of her involvement in various criminal activities.

The Army spokesman also revealed that the troops have intercepted a Toyota Yaris vehicle with registration number, Taraba KLD 652 XA, that was carrying an AK-47 rifle and an AK-47 magazine.

Two Identity Cards of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, were also recovered from the vehicle.

He said  the  troops of the Brigade, while on routine stop and search patrol in Bantaje town of Wukari council on 5 September, 2024, flagged down the suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris vehicle coming from Wukari and heading towards Jalingo.

Captain Oni further stated that when the vehicle was stopped the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.

He said when thorough search of the abandoned vehicle was conducted the guns and the NURTW Identity Cards bearing the names of  Isa Ibrahim and Mallam Isa Garin Tukura all of Gassol Local Government Area were found inside the vehicle.

He said investigation was still in progress to trace and arrest the suspect, as well as to ascertain the involvement of individuals with the identity cards.
