The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year- old Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, the suspect allegedly responsible for the kidnap and death of 8-year-old Kamal Aliyu in the Runjin Gani area of Toro LGA of Bauchi State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement Thursday, said that on August 4, 2024, Kamal Aliyu was reportedly kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani village in Toro LGA of Bauchi State.

He said, ‘’In response, the DPO of Toro Police Divisional headquarters launched an intensive search and rescue operation in the area.

“Acting on credible intelligence and a tip-off on August 15, 2024, the Divisional Police Officer apprehended Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a 23-year-old male resident of the same Runjin Gani community and a close neighbour to the victim’s family.

‘’During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual, whose identity is still unknown, to kidnap Kamal Aliyu by luring him under the pretence of delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.’’

Wakil added that the suspect admitted to taking the young boy into a nearby bush, where they killed him and buried his body in a shallow grave. The suspect also disclosed that they had demanded a ransom of N200,0000 from the victim’s father.

He said even though the father complied and took the ransom to the designated location, the suspects were unable to retrieve it due to the presence of security operatives in the nearby area.

The state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
