Police in Osun State have arrested three suspected members of a dreaded secret cult known as ‘lkiola’ over killings at Sabo in Osogbo, Osun State capital, recently.

The three suspected cultists include Lawal Dauda and Bello Taofeek and their leader, Aderemi Serif, who is popularly known as Sungbengbe.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Wale Olokode, told Daily Trust on Thursday that the suspects were responsible for the two persons killed at Sabo and many others injured.

The police chief said the suspects attacked two Hausa men selling tea and Suya, stole their money and destroyed their wares.

The CP said “the fracas led to the killing of one Zakariyahu Abdulahi, a Hausa man, while several others were injured.”

One of those that sustained injuries during the attack later died at the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

CP Olokode said the three suspects have made useful statements and that efforts are being intensified to arrest more suspects in connection with the case while an investigation continues.

But the ring leader of the gang, Serif, who is popularly, in a chat with Daily Trust at the headquarters of the Osun State Police Command said he was innocent and that he was arrested because he is a Yoruba man.

CP Olokode said the suspect would be arraigned in court after a diligent investigation and assured the residents of the safety of their lives and property.
