Super Eagles lack creative midfielders – Dahiru Sadi

A former international, Dahiru Sadi, has said strikers of the Super Eagles are firing blanks at the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) because the team is lacking creative midfielders.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year and Napoli marksman, Victor Oismhen is yet to open his goal account at the ongoing championship but the former midfielder believes all that will change with the presence of a playmaker.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Ranchers Bees and Abiola Babes midfielder said it is worrisome that a striker like Osimhen is most times forced to drop deep in search of balls.

He said in Napoli, Osimhen scores for fun because he has at least two good midfielders who ensure he receives quality passes upfront.

“I am not surprised that the Super Eagles are not scoring goals. There is no creative midfielder in the team. There is no one to give defence splitting passes again.

“It is not good that Osimhen is always looking for the ball all over the pitch. Anytime he drops too deep or performs defensive duties, his striking power is reduced,” he said.

Sadi, therefore charged coaches of the Super Eagles start watching the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) where he said talented midfielders can be found.

“Lack of creative midfielders has been one of the major problems of the Super Eagles but it will be solved, if the coaches look in the direction of the NPFL.

“Since those coming from Europe have failed to play the role satisfactorily, we should give the home boys a chance, “ he suggested.
