The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged leaders to support people living with disabilities (PLWDs) in their areas.
Receiving the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu and his team at his palace on Monday, the monarch promised to work with the commission for it to deliver on its goals and objectives.
Sa’ad said doing so would help them to overcome their challenges.
“I am calling on leaders across the nation to make use of the same zeal and dedication used in defeating Polio in the country to support the physically challenged in our society,” he advocated.
He commended President Muhammad Buhari for signing the bills establishing the commission into law.
Earlier, Lalu appealed to the Sultan to make use of his office and preach against discrimination in whatever form against persons living with disabilities, especially within religious circles.
He also appealed to the Sokoto State government to hasten the constitution and inauguration of the commission in the state.
