An underage female suicide bomber detonated a bomb on Saturday killing herself and six others and injuring 32 more people in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.
Our correspondent reports that the incident happened around 10:40 am when a girl of about 12 years detonated explosives which were strapped to her body at the gate of Damaturu motor park.
A witness said the suicide bomber was near the check point mounted at the gate before the explosives went off.
“She had about three bombs on her body but only one detonated. Many people including women, children, traders and passersby were cut off by the incident,” he said.
Chief Medical Director of the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Dr Garba Fika confirmed 32 injured persons were brought to the hospital while one died.
“Thirty two people were brought injured, one of them died and I was just updated that six corpses have been brought to the hospital morgue,” he said.
Residents in Damaturu were seen trooping into the hospital to identify their loved ones.
