Successor of Malam Aminu Kano, Khalifa Hassan Yusuf, buried in Yobe

The remains of elder statesman, Khalifa Hassan Yusuf (Galadiman Damaturu), have been laid to rest at exactly 11:45am in his personal residence in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The late Yusuf succeeded Malam Aminu Kano in 1983 as leader of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and emerged presidential flag bearer which late President Shehu Shagari later won.

Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo came second, late Dr Nmandi Azikiwe third, late Khalifa Hassan Yusuf came fourth, late Waziri Ibrahim emerged fifth while Tunji Braithwaite came sixth.

His son, Yusuf Hassan Yusuf, told Daily Trust that his father was born in 1937 in Kujafa town, Biu local government area of Borno state.

He described him as a loving father, who instil good values in them and supported many people in the society.

He said that the deceased had left behind four wives, 55 children and many grand children.

According to Yusuf, his father started his political life in 1958 as a youth leader of Northern Element Progressive Union (NEPU) before he joined the Action Group (AG) and later the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

The Janaza (funeral) prayer was conducted by the Chief Imam of Damaturu Central Mosque, Imam Malam Goni and attended by Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Hashimi Ibn El-Kanemi, Yobe state deputy governor, Abubakar Ali, the state APC governorship candidate, Mai Mala Buni, thousand of sympathizers, well wishers and family members.
