American-Canadian Tv host and Makeup artist, Jay Manuel, says style is much more important than the designer tag on one’s outfit.
He made this known in his keynote address at the GTBank Fashion Weekend masterclass on Saturday in Lagos.
Manuel is known for his contribution as creative director and judge on the CW Network reality series, “America’s Next Top Model.”
He also hosted “Style Rocks the Red Carpet” for New York Fashion Week and “Fashion Police” as well as covered the red carpet world of celebrity fashion and beauty at the Emmys, the Grammys and the Oscars.
Speaking on the topic, “Discover You – In a World of Social Media and Noise”, Manuel urged business owners not to jump on the “bandwagon of trends”
He described social media as a double-edged sword which could be used either productively or otherwise.
“You don’t have to follow every trend you come across on the media.”
Manuel gave tips on how to discover oneself in a world where social media had become the order of the day.
He urged business owners to be impeccable with their words and be true always.
“Create momentum and remember that even though you’re inspired by your work, it is not really a reflection of what you are.
“Don’t get too emotional about criticisms and opinions of others about your work,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in 2015, the American make-up artist launched Jay Manuel Beauty, a prestige line of cosmetics based on a new Filter Finish collection technology.
Manuel had worked as makeup artist and stylist for Vogue, Victoria’s Secret, Revlon and Cover Girl.
He has also been a makeup artist and stylist to celebrities such as Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, JadaPinkett Smith, Iman, Jenifer Lopez, and a host of others. (NAN)
