Students using facemasks to cheat in exams – Don

Professor Egbe Okpenge of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUAM), Makurdi, has said that students now use facemasks to cheat in exams.

She made the assertion while delivering a paper at a one-day North-Central National Attitudinal Re-orientation programme for students in tertiary institutions.

Okpenge in her presentation entitled, “An Overview of Cultism, Examination Malpractices and Cybercrime in Tertiary Institutions,” stated that it was rare to find the absence of bad habit and unacceptable behaviour among young men and women in institutions of learning.

“People now use facemasks for examination malpractices,” she said.

The university don, therefore, stressed the need for behavioural change, noting that the vice has eaten deep into the fabrics of tertiary institutions in the country, such that it lowers educational standards and job performance.

The director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, whose office organised the programme, advised students to embrace attitudes worthy of enhancing national development.

Represented by the state director of the NOA, Chief Richard Abimiku Audu, the director-general stressed the need to reawaken the  consciousness of the youth for them to embrace national core values and curtail the rising trend of social vices in tertiary institutions.
