Students urged to master the art of spelling

The executive director of Green Light Initiative, Simon Patrick Obi, has said education is incomplete without a good knowledge of spelling.

Obi said it is important for students to learn to spell because “you can’t be educated without knowing how to spell, otherwise how do you communicate your education in writing,” he said.

Obi who made this known at a spelling bee competition titled “Enhance Your Vocabulary “ for secondary schools in Abuja organized by the Bunker Abuja in partnership with Green Light Initiative said spelling competitions should be promoted in schools, especially, among junior students.

“In our society many people do not know how to spell and that’s a big problem,” he said, adding that it affects good communication.

The manager of the Bunker, Jeremiah Audu Enemakwu described the competition as an opportunity for the organisation to give back to society.

He said the competition will also help the students improve their vocabulary. “If you’re learning new words, you will want to also learn how to use these words and by doing so, you find it easier to communicate,” he said.
