Members of the Nutrition and Dietetics Society of Nigeria (NADSAN), Kaduna Polytechnic chapter, have sensitized their host community on the importance of nutrition and dietetics as part of activities marking the society’s annual programme to educate residents, particularly women on the need to take their health seriously.
Speaking during the free nutritional assessment and biochemical test rally organised by the student, NADSAN president, Abdulazeez Kankada, said it has become key for the general public to be educated about nutrition and dietetics.

He said most Nigerians lacked full knowledge of the kind of healthy food to feed their children which leads to high malnutrition, especially among children in rural communities.
He said the sensitization was aimed at creating more awareness for people in rural communities to know that eating good food as well as fruits and vegetables could help protect them from diseases including COVID-19 as fruits boost the human immune system.
Arewa Trust Weekly also observed that some members of the host communities got free hypertension, diabetes and weight tests as part of the activities to mark the day.
Also speaking, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Programme Coordinator, Mariama Darbe, said it was commendable to see young people paying attention to nutrition and dietetics.
Darbe said UNFPA attended the event to show support and to encourage the students since nutrition is key to tackling high maternal mortality in rural communities.
