To stem the tide against sexual and gender-based violence, the YouthHub Africa recently engaged students of several secondary schools in Nigeria to push for improved awareness of the indicators.

YouthHub, a youth-centric platform said it engaged young boys on the dangers of sexual, gender-based violence and harmful practices against women and girls in the society.

“While we identified some knowledge gaps on their understanding of gender-based violence and the role they can play in eliminating certain harmful practices perpetrated against women and girls, we were also encouraged to hear the views shared by most of the school boys like that of 16-year old Gabriel Adewale from Baptist Secondary School,” the organization said.

“No man is ever meant to raise his hands on his wife, any problem a man has with his wife can be resolved through communication, If communication proves difficult, there should be an informed and trusted third party who can help resolve the issue, ‘’ said Gabriel.

According to the hub, there is the need for more sensitisation to ensure young men and boys take full responsibility to ending sexual and gender-based violence.

“We were also pleased to know that school authorities and concerned citizens are putting in efforts to ensure that young men and boys understand the menace of Gender-based violence,” the firm said.
