A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Buharian Culture Organisation (BCO) has said as future leaders, students should have a good knowledge of Nigeria and Africa history to advance the country and put it on the right path.
Coordinator of the organisation, Hajiya Maryam Yakubu Ikunaye said this at the 2015 edition of the National History Competition in Abuja with the theme “Change and transformation in history.”
Hajiya Maryam who was represented by Hajara Yusuf said there was the need to re-orient students because overtime important values have been lost.
She said “We need to remind our students of our history to shape their orientation because we seem to have lost our values over time and there is no future without looking into the past.”
The coordinator added that Nigerian history is rich with people of integrity who should be seen as models to be emulated, hence must be looked into for the students to pick up good values.
Speaking earlier, coordinator of the competition, Mr. James Ominisi said the aim of the programme was to ensure that Nigerian and African history is not forgotten.
