Students of tertiary and secondary schools as well as married women are among the highest users of drugs in Katsina State, the state commander of The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Maryam Sani has said
Speaking with newsmen, Sani said it is wearisome the increasing number of drug users in such groups, noting that a lot must be done with the involvement of stakeholders to reduce the menace.
She said, virtually no high institution in the state is free of the crime, adding that mostly they were arrested outside school premises at obscure locations buying or dealing in drugs.
“Some were arrested on their way from Kano where they have gone to buy drugs,” she added.
Last year alone we arrested over 50 students, 13 females and 20 other under the age of 18 years , we seized a total of 432 Kg of illicit substances.
She said the substances was made up of Cannabis; 246.7kg, Psychotropic substances of 185.2kgs, and cough syrup with codeine; 99.675 litres equivalent of 997 bottles.
