The Kwara State Police Command has arraigned a student of the University of Ilorin, Jamiu Abdulhameed, over alleged rape.
The police said the charge contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the complainant (name withheld), a resident of Sanrab area, Tanke, Ilọrin, alleged that the incident took place when she went to the suspect’s room to charge her phone.
“She sat on his (suspect’s) bed to watch a movie, and along the line, Jamiu Abdulhameed told her that he wanted to switch off his generator and asked her to help put on the torchlight which she did.

“He returned to the room, locked the door and started touching her inappropriately and eventually had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” the sheet added.
The police said the medical report obtained from the police clinic at ‘A’ Division, Ilorin, showed that her ‘hymen has notched measuring about 05cm’.
Prosecutor, Adisa Akinjode, urged the court to remand the suspect.
However, the defence counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, who described the accused as ‘a final year student of University of Ilorin with about three months to his graduation’, urged the court to grant him bail.
Ruling on the matter, the trial magistrate, N. Ajide, remanded the accused at the federal correctional centre, Ilọrin, and adjourned the case till August 28.
