The Public Relations Officer of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Alhaji Adewole Soladoye, said his death was a great loss to the institution and society for he was an employer of labour.
Daily Trust gathered that Ayeni, president of Christian fellowship, was supposed to get married next week Saturday in Ibadan before his death.
Speaking about the incident, Soladoye said Ayeni, who rented an apartment in the Bodija area of Ibadan, had gone to see his mother in Ojoo when the armed robbers invaded the community.
He said when the armed robbers had successfully operated in the area, they asked Ayeni to lead them to their other neighbours but he declined and in the process, they shot him in his leg.
According to him, Ayeni was taken to an undisclosed private hospital where they rejected him and in the process, he lost blood for over three hours which later resulted in his death.
“We are in a sad mood as we speak.
“Such a successful and employer of labour at that age was killed.
“It is a great loss to the polytechnic and to the society because he was an employer of labour.”
