Speaking in Katsina during the inauguration of the state NULGE executives, Khaleel said state Assemblies failed local councils by their action.
He said in the recent referendum conducted by the House of Representatives, 330 out of the 360 federal constituencies adopted the position that local government should be autonomous.
He however regretted that the process was frustrated by state assemblies.
He expressed dissatisfaction with state Assemblies in the North-West, where none of the seven states in the zone “aligned itself with the position of the people of the zone.”
“The struggle continues and we will not relent as we are confident of our capacity to lead Nigerian people to get local governments to their rightful place,” he said.
