The House of Representatives Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has stated that, as a crucial part of the Nigerian economy, SMEs must be strengthened to provide more employment opportunities, reduce poverty, and contribute significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Chairman of the Committee, Mansur Manu Soro (PDP, Bauchi) stated this during its inaugural meeting on Tuesday.
He said, that without the success of SMEs, the Nigerian economy cannot thrive.
Soro said the Committee will promote the growth and development of SMEs and oversee the ease of doing business and create an enabling environment for them to contribute to the Nigerian economy. Over the next four years.

He added that they will help improve SMEs access to finance, address regulatory bottlenecks, expand market access and provide capacity building and training for SME owners.
He said the committee’s intervention will enhance SMEs’ competitiveness by creating enabling national policies that support their growth and development as well as create a positive impact on Nigeria’s SMEs ecosystem.
