The suit filed by the federal government against the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at the National Industrial Court over its nationwide strike has been adjourned to September 15.

President of the association, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, made the disclosure Monday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige had on Thursday handed over the dispute between government and NARD to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria for adjudication.

The association had commenced an indefinite strike on Monday, August 2 following the failure of the government to fulfil its promises on salary payment, hazard allowances, medical residency training fees, and COVID-19 allowance among others.

The NARD president said the Ministry of labour was absent and only the ministry of Health was present to represent the federal government in court.

He said, “As you are aware, today the government sued us to the National Industrial Court for adjudication.

“As a law-abiding association, we were in court as summoned, but the ministry of Labour was absent, and only the ministry of Health was present representing the federal government. The case was adjourned to 15th September 2021.”
