Organized labour leaders in the country, Wednesday, stormed Ogun state to give support to the public service workers’ strike, which entered its 14th day.
As at time of this report (4.00pm), the meeting with the leaders and the state government, led by the governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun was on-going at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The leaders, which comprised the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comr. Ayuba Waba, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comr. Kagaima, Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Kari Muhammad and the National President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comr. Ibraheem Khaleed with other leaders across the state councils arrived as early as 8.00am.
The NLC president who addressed the crowd of the striking workers at the NLC house, threatened to lobby for the stoppage of the state federal allocation if the demands of the workers are not met.
He said, the action, which had been carried out in some states of the country, would ensure the state government accede to the request and demand of the workers.
Waba also condemned the sacking of some principal officers of the organized labour in the state, describing it as illegal and ill- advised.
Shortly after the rally at the complex, the leaders headed straight to the government secretariat, where they were still in the closed- door session with the governor and his officials.
Hundreds of the striking workers defied the scorching sun to wait for the outcome of the meeting, while detachment of armed policemen were seen around the NLC secretariat at Lukosi area of Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
