The representatives of federal government and leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are currently in a marathon closed-door over ongoing strike that had grounded academic activities in universities.

The meeting, which started at about 5:13pm was re-convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, after it had earlier been postponed twice and later cancelled.

ASUU had earlier expressed its displeasure over statement credited to the Minister, noting that the government had handled the nine-month-old strike poorly.

It would be recalled that the government had during November 27 meeting with the union, pledged to pay N40 billion as the Earned Allowance and N30bn for the revitalization of the university system bringing the total payment to N70 billion
