There was nearly 100 percent compliance to the industrial action called by the organised labour as schools, government institutions and banks were closed, a development which paralyzed economic activities in Ogun State.
Our correspondent reports that activities at both local, state and federal secretariat complexes, as well as agencies, parastatals, and public schools, amongst others, were paralyzed; while major entrances to the public offices remained under lock and key.
Few of the non-essential workers who reported for work were seen discussing in groups; while pupils and students of government schools were asked to return to their respective homes.
Some of the schools visited are African Church Grammar School, Ita Eko, Gateway Secondary School, Pepsi in Abeokuta.
An early morning visit to Oke-Ilewo where majority of commercial banks were located, saw a number of customers who came out as early as 8am for transaction but stranded.
Our correspondent observed that a number of them who had hoped that bank officials would opt for skeletal services, were disappointed when it was dawn on them that the commercial banks fully complied with the strike.
At the State Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, workers who had hitherto rushed to work, returned home.
The gates of the State High Court and Magistrates Courts at Isabo were also under lock and key when our correspondent visited.
Speaking with newsmen on the development, the state chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Olubunmi Fajobi, vowed that the union would ensure full compliance with the strike in the state.
Fajobi explained that the beauty of the expected new minimum was that it would have a positive effect on both government and private organisations, saying that all employees must be involved.
