An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Imo State, Mrs Glory Nkwocha, was murdered during a gun duel in Orlu, Imo State between combined security operatives and gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), which is the armed wing of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
Nkwocha was hit on Thursday night during the gun battle by a stray bullet that got her in her sitting room.
It was gathered that Nkwocha was in her house with her family when the flying bullet hit her.
She was said to have been taken to the intensive care of the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, where she died on Friday.
According to a family source, the woman was in her house in Orlu with her family on Thursday night when a stray bullet from the gun battle between security men and gunmen hit her.
She lost consciousness immediately.
The source said they could not take her to the hospital immediately because of the tense situation, adding that by the time she was later taken to the emergency unit of the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, doctors battled in vain to save her life.
The spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, was not available for comments.
