Stop travelling in containers, FRSC warns commuters

The Ogun Command of  the Federal Road Safety Commission  (FRSC) has advised travellers on the  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to desist from travelling in  containers.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota  on Wednesday while reacting to an accident that claimed seven lives at Alapako-Ogunmakin area on Tuesday.
Oladele, however, implored motorists to be cautious and obey traffic signs erected on the segment of the road to reduce crashes.
He also warned motorists to desist from dangerous driving and overtaking, saying  Tuesday’s incident  was as a  result of  carelessness  on the part of the container driver.
Oladele said that 10 people were killed at the same spot on Jan.  9, adding that there was the need to put preventive measures in place to avert any other crash  in the area.
“We will not relent in ensuring that crashes are reduced  to the lowest level along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway  and other parts of the state,  ” he said.
NAN reports that an FRSC team  in company with the Federal Controller of  Works in Ogun, Yinka Popoola,  on Jan.  16  met with the leadership of the contracting firm, RCC,   to discuss  safety measures on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.(NAN)
