Stop attacking Umahi, ex-APC chairman warns Egwu

The immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Hon Eze Nwachukwu, has warned the first civilian governor of the state, Sen. Sam Egwu, to stop insulting Governor David Umahi.

The ex-chairman, serving as the acting commissioner for Market Development and Management, spoke about this at a Press conference held in Abakiliki on Tuesday.

The Ebonyi Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the National Assembly led by Egwu had in a Press briefing held in Abuja alleged that Governor Umahi is misusing the Ebube Agu Security outfit to proliferate arms in the state.

Egwu, who represents Ebonyi North, noted that the world needs to know that the governor’s aims is not for criminals but political opponents.

Nwachukwu cautioned the federal lawmakers not to use sensitive issue like security to destabilise the state but to be constructive in their criticism.

He also traced the recent malice between the governor and the lawmakers to the defection of Umahi to ruling Party APC.

“The truth remains that serving National assembly Members of EBONYI extraction were making frantic effort underground when I was the chairman to come to the party before they knew it. The governor in his smartness, ran ahead of them and joined APC.

“And when the governor quickly declared his interest, you all saw my response, we were very receptive, from the national to the state, and very happy about the development, this triggered off all these unwarranted and unnecessary Allegations and attacks on the governor.

“And I want to use this opportunity to warn them, that any insult and political attack on the governor is an attack on me, because this is a house I spent fortune, staked my life to build, therefore anybody that comes now to make any kind of movement or utterances that will amount to dismantling this house, I promise to vehemently to resist them, and I am using this opportunity to sound a note of warning to all of them, because we have their political history and data.

“So any further derogatory comment on the governor, I will further open their can of worms”, he said.

Daily Trust observed that both stakeholders of the ruling party and those in the opposition have been at loggerhead since Governor Umahi joined APC in 2020.
