Still on University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and poor handling of patients

On the 3rd of May 2021, Daily Trust newspaper published an article with the above caption written by one Wadzani Apagu, stating that patients are not giving the needed attention especially poor and average people.

The aforesaid statement is of course a naked truth, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital workers treat patients with little sympathy, which leads to the death of many patients.

Based on what I gathered after series of observations, investigating and interviewing patients, many said they preferred going to a private hospital no matter the low cost  at UMTH because of the improper handling of patients by the personnel.

It’s undeniable that the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital is a busy facility in the entire Borno State, but that should not be an excuse for the workers to treat patients as they wish since the government has provided the necessary equipment.

Every sensible person should know that  a sick person needs to be cheered up, encouraged and not to be maltreated but in UMTH, if you don’t know anyone who is influential or any staff you are likely not to get the attention needed.

If the government could allocate huge money, equipment and pay them a huge salary, it is inhuman to maltreat patients.

Finally, I wish to call on the government to set up a committee that will be charged with monitoring and ensuring good, quality services for patients at every government hospital not just UMTH.
