Addressing journalists in Kano, the chairman of the association, Chief Victor Okonkwo, said, based on their findings and as contained in the Kano State censorship board law 2001 which they obtained from the house of assembly, they were not under the purview of the censorship board.

“We got a copy of the law from Kano State House of Assembly and it clearly shows that their main area is film and cinema, as well as pornographic publications. I find it difficult to reconcile their position of wanting us to register with them. We deal in textbooks and exercise books for primary and secondary schools; we believe the books have been censored already by their publishers.

The chairman challenged the board to take the association to court for a better interpretation of the law, saying that they were not going to succumb to pressure to part with their profit after all the other payments to the local government and the ministry of commerce for sundry taxations.
