The Presidential Aspirant of National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr. Thomas- Wilson Ikubese has recommended that states should employ 10 per cent of corps members who serve in their states as part of measures to deepen national cohesion and integration.
He also called for abolition of state of origin to be replaced by state of residence in the constitution.
Ikubese gave the recommendations in his presentation at the Integration Roundtable on "National Integration: Harnessing the strength in our diversity" organized by the Integration Summit Group- Nigeria (ISG-N) held in Abuja and convened by Dr. Chris Ekiyor.
In his presentation, the presidential aspirant said Nigeria must adopt a national policy on intertribal marriage wherein those who marry outside of their tribe are encouraged, e.g the first child of that union be given a scholarship.
He called for the revisiting of the 2014 National Confab recommendations, saying quite a number of its recommendations hinge on national integration.
According to him, "We should adopt a national indigenous language called GUOSA, which encompasses about 120 tongues in Nigeria and West Africa."
He said to stop the unending farmers-herders’ clashes in the country, there should be a policy on cattle ranching which must be embraced by all and sundry.
He said, "Our vast expanse of lands should be utilised for mechanized agriculture and farmers given tractors on loan basis as to keep the large chunk of our people busy and beneficial to the society.
"Our citizens should pay their allegiance to Nigeria and not to any political party or candidate. Once elections are over and a winner declared, we should be ready to praise our candidate where he does well and give him knocks where he fails."
