The member representing Fagge federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Comrade Suleiman Aminu Goro has expressed reservations to the proposal earlier endorsed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo for the creation of state police in a bid to addressing security issues in the country.

Goro made this opinion known to journalists on Monday during a monthly youth interactive session in Kano, tagged “Inspiring Leadership Reflection Interactive Series” organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) to provide opportunity for youths in the state to share life experiences of some influential personalities in various vocations.

Comrade Goro who was the guest speaker at the February edition of the programme said state police portends more harm to the country, arguing that some state governors might use it at the expense of national unity.

‘’My understanding of the Nigerian state is that we need a very unified security system that will always respond to matters of national interest and security not a security created from the benefit and utilization of one chief executive that could use it defending his belief and disposition to issues concerning the Nigerian state. So for me to have a structured Nigerian police by each state is an invitation of anarchy, an invitation to the end of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’’ he argued.

The lawmaker blamed the governors for myriad of issues confronting the country saying their utterances and policies are harmful to the national unity.

‘’There are some governors that are making reckless statements, there are governors that make laws preventing members of the Nigerian state indigenes of the federal republic of Nigeria from plying particular or specific trade in their state of control. If you allow such governors to have excessive power on security those governors can legislate that some Nigerians are prohibited from visiting or staying in some parts of the country” Goro added.
