State needs 150 doctors, says governor

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun says the state needs additional 150 doctors in the junior cadre to reduce shortage of manpower in the state-owned hospital.

The governor disclosed this at the National Physicians’ Week of the NMA in Abeokuta, the state capital. Abiodun said he has given approval to all state-owned hospitals to commence the recruitment of 20 consultant doctors as a way of addressing manpower shortage.

Abiodun who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said the recruitment would also boost healthcare delivery in the state, adding that he has approved the regularisation of payment of appropriate renumeration for all doctors working in state-owned hospitals.

He disclosed that state would commence the implementation of the appropriate renumeration to state doctors by the end of the month, and that they would earn the same salary with their counterpart in the Federal employ.
