Saleh Abubakar, the chief of staff to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said the move was to is make passengers comfortable as, according to him, okada was not suitable for many categories of passengers, especially school children, women and the old.
He said when Yobe government set the pace by buying the taxis, private investors would also be encouraged to do so.
Saleh said wealthy individuals were not comfortable to buy taxis and buses for intra city transport because of absence of roads. “As you can see, several kilometres of township roads have been completed and are fit for commercial activities”, he said.
He said similar roads would be constructed in major cities and local government headquarters across the state in order to boost economic activities.
