A group under the umbrella of Youth Takeover Nigeria 2019 (YTN2019) has charged the state assemblies to ensure the passage of the “Not Too Young To Run” bill by voting in affirmation.
The bill, which is currently before the state assemblies, seeks, among others, the reduction of age qualification for aspirants seeking elective political positions in the country.
The YTN2019 president, Comrade Amienye Omorogie, who gave the charge in Benin at the weekend, said his group was seeking an end to recycled political elite through the ballot by voting for youthful candidates.
Omorogie said that when the bill is passed into law, it would help pave way for the younger ones to come into politics.
“They said that youths are the leaders of tomorrow and those who said it 30 years ago are still there today. When will it be the turn of the youths to be the leaders of tomorrow? Certainly, it is going to be 2019 and we are coming together,” he said.
