Stalemate has continued between handlers and agents at the airports over the recent 100 per cent increase in cargo handling charges.

This is coming as the handlers consisting of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC agreed to reduce the increment to 80% but the agents rejected this as they continued their strike, insisting that it should be 50%.

Daily Trust reports that the agents have been on strike since Friday over the 100% increase in cargo charges.

At a meeting yesterday, it was learnt that an 80% increase was tabled before the leaders of the cargo agents under the aegis of the Association Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).
But the association rejected the 80% being put forward by the two handling companies while proposing 50% instead.
Vice Chairman of ANLCA, Mr Davies Ben Chukwunenye, said the agents rejected the 80% put forward before them adding that the strike continues.
Davies said the agents would only agree on 50% adding that there was nowhere in the world where 100% increase is allowed.
The two handling companies had justified the increase, blaming it on cost of operations and naira depreciation, which has affected acquisition of equipment.
