Immigration stakeholders in the country have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confirm Mrs Adepoju as the substantive Comptroller General of Immigration.
The Federal Government on Monday 26th of May, 2023, through the Civil Defence, Correction, Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIB), approved the appointment of Mrs Adepoju as the Acting CG of NIS.
A letter signed by Mr Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Board secretary, conveyed the approval of the Board to Mrs Adepoju to take charge of the service from the 30th of May, 2023 as the most senior Deputy Comptroller General.
The stakeholders in a statement signed by Akinwale Ayomipo Dennis, said: “We consider her appointment as historic because it is the first time an officer from the South West would be appointed to the position of the CG since the establishment of NIS in 1963.
“As immigration stakeholders, we are elated by the appointment and see it as a huge encouragement to female officers that they can reach the highest level of authority if they serve with integrity, excellence and patriotism.
“We can confirm that the appointment of Mrs Adepoju has been well received by men of the service at the NIS headquarters and across state commands and immigration formations in the country.
“She is known in the service to be a thorough-bred professional and highly motivated officer, who would bring her wealth of experience in immigration management to bare in the discharge of her duties.”
The group said her appointment is a breadth of fresh air to the NIS, the Nigerian women and all immigration stakeholders across the country.
