Stakeholders in the pension industry urge federal government to remove bottlenecks hindering prompt payment of pensions to retirees in the country.
This was made known in a communique issued at the end of the stakeholders meeting, under the auspices of the Nigerian Transitional Pension Forum, held in Abuja, recently.
Issued by the president of the forum, Dr Abdulraman Abubakar, and secretary-general, Engr. Obinna Odimegwa, the communique, advised the federal government to appoint credible experts to manage the pension sector.
It expressed dismay over what it described as the “prolong and deliberate delay” in releasing the report of the investigative panel set up in February by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, to look into the alleged mismanagement of fund by the suspended director-general of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Nellie Mayshack.
The communique said that the Nigerian public deserved the right to know the findings of the probe panel and the fate of the suspended Mayshack.
The communique urged the government to ensure justice in the matter to give people sense of belonging.
“If the panel vindicates Neillie Mayshack from any wrong doing, then, the public should know,” it said.
The communique called on the minister of finance to publish the report of the investigative panel for people to know the true position of the issue.
