Stakeholders have called for a framework that would strengthen local non-governmental organisations in providing humanitarian response in the country.
They made the call Saturday in Abuja during an advocacy dialogue organised by the Nigeria Joint Response (NJR) on humanitarian services.
They said that doing so would ensure effective coordination of the humanitarian response in the North-East of the country.
The Director, Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre, Professor Patricia Donli, said the framework would guide the implementation of localisation of humanitarian response and regulate the activities of non-governmental organisations in terms of funding and general operations.
She said the country would perform better with political will and the needed resources rather than depending on international donors for its response.
The director of Jireh Duo Foundation, Mrs Josephine Abba, said localisation had provided a voice in form of cash or kind to vulnerable people who needed them in the country.
The executive secretary, Community Health, Justice and Peace Initiative for Development (JDPH), Mrs Juliana Shan, said the organisation had trained and supported 300 most vulnerable households with agriculture input.
