A workshop on curriculum review and development for specialised postgraduate programmes in land governance and planning has been conducted in Minna, Niger State.
The workshop, which examined the current state and practices of land policy formulation and governance across Nigeria vis-à-vis the existing academic curriculum for the various departments and institutions of academic learning, noted that the subject of land governance exceeded the domain of a single professional, hence the need to bring different professionals together.
A communiqué issued at the end of the workshop, sponsored by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA), said the participants x-rayed the existing undergraduate and postgraduate course structures and curriculum across the country and noticed the need for the establishment of a land governance programme at postgraduate level.
The workshop further identified that though the programme is targeted at postgraduate studies, elements of land governance should be injected into the undergraduate courses of related disciplines.
The workshop, came up with a draft curriculum for PGD and MTech in land governance.
The head of the workshop and lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Associate Professor, Olurotimi Kemiki, disclosed that the university would start running the programme before long.
