Stakeholders drawn from the public and private sectors have called for the entrenchment of entrepreneurship in Nigeria as a way of boosting the country’s fragile economy.
They made the call yesterday in Abuja at a book launch titled “Mindful Entrepreneurship: Insightful Business Management Philosophies and Practices for Success, written by Musbahu El-Yakub.
In his address, Umar El-Yakub, Minister of State for Works and Housing noted that despite Nigeria’s economic challenges, Nigeria’s youthful population have imbibed entrepreneurial skills and is currently contributing its quota to national development.
That on the part of government, “The national social investment programmes such as the graduate empowerment programmes, trader money among others have aided the development of more businesses, especially at the rural areas,”

He however said the only way the economy can grow is to sustain entrepreneurship development programmes at all levels of government asides the federal level.
Similarly, the Chairman of the occasion and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barr. Abubakar Mahmoud noted that the book would not have come at a better time, especially at a time when unemployment is high among graduates
“In Nigeria today, universities graduate thousands of students with no jobs, as such entrepreneurship is the only gateway to drive the economy so our young people can create wealth without relying on the so-called white collar jobs like the CBN, FIRS and NNPC among others where the positions are limited.
The book, which highlights the keys to entrepreneurship success, is no doubt a resourceful material for our youthful population for business ideas and managing finance,” he said.
Delivering a keynote address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Group, Mr Mounir Gwarzo commended the writer for churning out insightful writing on how young entrepreneurs can succeed.
He added that the author started writing for Daily Trust in 2021 and has so far written over 85 articles on business management, philosophies and business strategies.
“We at Media Trust Ltd are happy to associate with the author who through his writing has taught the youths how to equip themselves with necessary entrepreneurial skills ahead of an uncertain future,” he said.
Gwarzo who was represented by the Group Executive Director, Digital and Editorial Services of Media Trust, Naziru Mikailu said that instead of the author to write on politics considering the season, El-Yakub rather focused his energy on key areas of entrepreneurship and helping young people to learn the skills needed to thrive.
He noted that “Last November, Daily Trust wrote an editorial from the multidimensional poverty report released by the National Bureau of Statistics after noticing that the report didn’t generate the attention it needed, especially at a time of political campaigns where candidates are not telling Nigerians their plans on how to revive the economy”
He added that politicians are discussing issues that do not directly affect Nigerians like a minimum living standard for all Nigerians and other safety nets, noting that such interventions are necessary.
Mikailu further stated that the book is timely as Nigeria needs a shift from traditional government jobs to entrepreneurship so that its population can become job creators and contribute to the growth of the economy.
Commenting on the book, the author, Musbahu El-Yakub said the 254-page book incorporates tropical issues on entrepreneurship as well as operating models for business.
