St Michaels pass Orkuma Friends stern test, reach Unity Cup finals

St Michaels Ameladu Wednesday overcame the litmus test presented by Moses Orkuma Friends to reach the final of the 5th edition of Orkuma Unity football tournament.

Led by the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Emmanuel Asue, St Michaels held tight to the lone goal scored by Terkuma Ayator in the 29th minute of the match to book their place in the finals.

To reach the semi-finals, St. Michaels defeated Super Stars Academy 5-3 on penalties after 0-0 in regulation time while Orkuma Friends edged out highly rated Santana FC Ugba 4-2 on penalties in the other quarter-final match.

Following their victory, St Michaels will slug it out in the finals with Lobi Penguins who had eliminated Benue Pros 5-4 on penalties in the first semi-final match played on Tuesday.

Speaking after yesterday’s victory, the scorer of St Michaels’ goal, Terkuma Ayator, attributed the victory to God.

He also said the presence of the Parish Priest and football enthusiast, Rev. Father Asue in the match was a great inspiration for the players.

“It was a very special moment for all of us. I dedicate the victory to God almighty for making it possible for us to reach the finals.

“I must also acknowledge the immense contributions of our Priest, Father Asue who didn’t stop at prayers but led us in the physical battle.

“We are now focused on our final match against Lobi Penguins. I am confident we would come out victorious,” he said.

Master Terkume who has scored four goals in five matches is in a prime position to win the Highest Goalscorer Award.

Meanwhile, third place match between Benue Pros and Orkuma Friends is slated for Friday, June 10 while the final match comes up on Saturday, June 11 at JS Tarka stadium Gboko.
