Ahead of the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Lagos State Ministry of Education, in partnership with Chronicles Software Development Company, has started giving out SuccessBOX (www.successbox.net) for WASSCE and BECE practice free of charge to SS3 and JSS3 students.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, approved the initiative designed to enable students to revise extensively and better prepare for excellent performance in the WASSCE and BECE examinations scheduled to commence on August 17 and 24, 2020 respectively.
Mrs. Adefisayo, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Education Head of Public Affairs, Kayode Abayomi, described the SuccessBOX web application as a test platform for students from all over Nigeria and beyond to prepare and excel in their examinations.
The Computer-Based Test (CBT) preparation software, according to her, has over 15 years accumulated question bank and answers, with instant result or feedback, performance analytics; adding that it works 100 per cent offline after download and activation.
She further said the initiative was being extended to students in private schools in the state; reiterating that it was meant to help them prepare adequately for the examinations.
The Chairman of Chronicles Software, Mr. Foluso Phillips, who is a renowned management consultant, emphasised that the initiative would immensely impact Lagos State students positively and enable them to practice with precision and go on to excel in their examinations.
In Niger State, huge turnout of students was recorded as schools resumed yesterday.
However, some schools turned back JSS3 students with instructions to await further instructions on suitable date to resume.
It was observed that the students were elated at reuniting after several months and engaged in hugging one another while ignoring the safety protocols.
At Limawa Model School, Kpakungun, the JSS3 students were sent home, while the Primary 6 students were seen waiting for their teachers.
Students at the Government Girls Day Secondary College (GGDSC) along Bosso Road observed the COVID-19 protocols as the teachers watched over them to ensure that they did not engage in any form of hugging or handshaking that could result in a violation of the protocols.
But low turnout was witnessed in schools in Edo State which also reopened for final year students yesterday.
Daily Trust observed the presence of sanitisers and hand washing materials for students and staff in the schools.
At Imaguero Girls College and Edokpolo Grammar School, only a handful of students were available to commence preparation for WAEC.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jimoh Ijegbai, the State Commissioner for Education, said the state government had provided all that was required for students’ safety, including face masks.
In Kano, which also reopened on Monday, the state government said it would deploy additional teachers to fast track revision for the exit students.
The Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sa’id Kiru, told newsmen in Kano that the schools comprised 199 public and 339 private schools.
NAN reports that the commissioner disclosed that additional teachers would be deployed to public schools for revision to assist students to achieve academic excellence in the examinations conducted by the WAEC.
